Baby Skincare

by Emma Thompson on January 15, 2026

When it comes to baby skin, only the best will do.

The following information reflects my personal opinion and should not replace advice from your doctor. However, if you have been following medical guidance and are not seeing results, you may find this worth reading.

All products avalable via our webste www.beehavenbodycare.co.uk or from our retail store, located in Ballygowan, Northern Ireland click here for opening hours & address

Here at Bee Haven Bodycare, we have been lovingly making our baby skincare range for the past five years, and it has quickly become one of our best-selling collections. There are no promotions, no sales pitches - just genuine word-of-mouth recommendations from parent to parent. Time and again, parents tell us how our products have helped reduce irritation, redness, itching, and many of the symptoms commonly associated with skin conditions such as eczema.

To be completely honest, I am not even sure that many of the babies (we see) actually have eczema - and I know that is a bold statement. I am not medically trained (as I always remind worried mums and dads), but based on what I see and the countless amazing Google reviews we receive, in many cases the skin issues completely clear up after only a short period of using our soap and balm.

We cannot claim to cure skin conditions like eczema - but our products will moisturise the skin and nourish it with incredible, natural ingredients, in the hope then the symptoms may ease.

In my opinion, many eczema-like skin symptoms may be caused by synthetic 'lather making' ingredients found in shop-bought, doctor-endorsed, big-pharma baby products. As parents, you would expect bubble baths, baby shampoos and body washes - especially those marketed as “gentle” - to be trustworthy. Unfortunately, I believe the front labels do not always tell the full story.

If you turn the bottle around and read the ingredients list, you’ll often find that after Aqua (water), the next ingredient (present in the highest quantity) is a synthetic surfactant or detergent. A common example is Cocamidopropyl Betaine - much milder than (the villanised) SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate).  But I have found, can still cause dryness and irritation in sensitive skin.

I don’t come to this conclusion lightly. I do use Cocamidopropyl Betaine in the whipped body wash I make (for non-sensitive adults), but I consistently see babies’ skin improve dramatically once these types of washes are removed from their routine. This strongly suggests that the ingredients themselves may be the cause?

The issue with big brands is simple: they do not want to wait four weeks for traditional soap to cure before selling it. They need products made, packaged and ready for sale in a single day. To achieve this, alternatives are used - then marketed as the purest, best choice a parent can make! When actually these may not be ideal for your precious little one’s skin.

So if you are experiencing ongoing skin issues, why not try something different?

Our simple routine (products linked, SAFE FROM BIRTH):

  • Wash from head to toe (including hair) with our Beeswax Baby Goat’s Milk Soap or Beeswax Baby Camel Milk Soap , or Baby Tallow and Honey Soap - ALL are wonderful, and you can’t go wrong its just your preference or perhaps you want to try all 3?

  • After bathing, apply The Beekeeper’s Intense Baby Balm. Melt a small amount between your palms and gently apply to the skin. (Take care - baby may be a little slippery at first!)

  • Tallow Baby Anytime Cream is a nourishing, tallow-based cream to help keep the skin hydrated and well nourished and is certified safe for use from birth. Use this anytime (as the name suggests) or after bathing, to keep the whole body hydrated, especially good for babies who appear to have dry skin over the whole body.

From 6 months you can add in our Tallow Baby Anytime Cream with Lavender Essential Oil, the scented version of the cream mentioned above, great for hydration AND to use at bedtime to relax baby.... and aid a more restful sleep (apply a little to the soles of the feet also).

From 1 year you can start baby on these soaps, which can be also be used by the whole family. Donkey Milk and Neroli with Siberian Clay or Alpaca Hearts with Camel Milk a unique soap, infused with camel milk and local Alpaca fleece...that turns into a natural hypoallergenic wash cloth.

Please note: Every product we offer has been certified by a cosmetic chemist. The age recommendations are there to guide you - they’re based on the age groups each product has been carefully developed and approved for.

THE BABY BELOW EXPERIENCED DRAMATIC RESULTS IN JUST 2 DAYS WITH THIS ROUTINE:
