A Gentle Approach to Eczema & Psoriasis Care

If you’re dealing with eczema, psoriasis, or persistent dry and itchy patches, one of the most important changes you can make is to avoid liquid lathering products from the shops. This includes many shower gels marketed as “for sensitive skin”—and even those labeled as “eczema-friendly” baby washes.

The reason? Most of these products are made with synthetic detergents (often called SYNDET). These ingredients strip away the skin’s natural barrier, often making dryness and irritation worse.

It may surprise you to learn that many bar soaps and shampoo bars are also SYNDET-based. (For example, Dove is not actually soap—it’s a synthetic detergent.) These detergents can cause itching, flare-ups, or even mimic eczema symptoms.

What We’ve Learned From Our Customers

Over the years, we’ve helped thousands of customers—adults and children alike—switch from SYNDET-based washes to our genuine, handmade soaps. For many, their skin irritation disappeared completely once they made the change.

Of course, when eczema or psoriasis is truly present, natural soap isn’t a “cure.” But time and again, our customers tell us that switching has soothed flare-ups and reduced symptoms to a much more manageable level.

Cleansing Balm (for removing makeup)

SORE EYES/MOUTH?

From our experience working with customers who experience sore eyelids, irritation aroubd the mouth etc, we’ve found that products like detergent-based facial washes (which includes most commercial ones), makeup wipes, and foaming cleansers can often trigger or worsen skin issues. Even something as simple as shampoo lather running down your face in the shower can make things 10x worse!

If this sounds like you, we recommend stripping your routine right back to the basics and following the simple routine below. Once your skin has calmed down, you can slowly reintroduce products — but do it one at a time, and please, avoid letting shampoo lather run over your face unless you’re using one of our synthetic detergent–free shampoo soap bars.
